A facility for all
The Newcastle Permanent Centre of Excellence is a facility for all – a state of the art high-performance training base for our elite men and women, a home ground for the next generation of Knights stars, and a facility the entire community can call home. The Centre is located in the heart of the Hunter Sports and Entertainment Precinct at District Park, just metres from McDonald Jones Stadium.
Jointly funded by the NSW Government and the Wests Group Australia, this state-of-the-art high-performance facility will be managed and maintained by the Wests Group Australia at a cost of $1.2m per year. All commercial investments generated by the facility will be reinvested into the funding of facilities for ongoing community use.
Outdoor Gym
Community use is at the core of the Centre of Excellence facility, with a range of active and passive attractions for the entire community including outdoor gym equipment designed to help you stay fit and healthy.
Grandstand
Future Knights greats will emerge at the Centre of Excellence, wearing the blue and red jersey with pride in the junior pathways competition. Family, friends, and fans alike will bear witness to this from a grandstand that is central to future development plans for the site.
Foyer
From the moment you walk into the Centre of Excellence, you will know you’re on Knights turf. From the trophies lifted by our all-time greats on Grand Final days past to the cornerstones beneath your feet, the facility will pay tribute to those who helped dig the well.
Forecourt
The Centre of Excellence forecourt will celebrate the achievements of the great Knights teams and players of the past, as well as those who went from our area and onto greatness prior to the Club’s debut back in 1988.
Athlete Rooms
Player-focused facilities at the Centre of Excellence include identical male and female change rooms, a 25-meter lap pool with hot and cold plunge pools, a dedicated player lounge and separate dining area, and a fully equipped physiotherapy clinic.
Athlete Gym
Large enough to accommodate full squad training at one time, the Centre of Excellence athlete gym features dedicated weights facilities, a sprinting track, full-size wrestling room, and bi-fold doors to allow for indoor/outdoor use.
Legends Room & Theatrette
Named in honour of Paul 'Chief' Harragon, The Chief’s Legends Room is a digitally enabled space celebrating the sporting history of Newcastle and the Hunter. The Room is 144 m² and also features an outdoor terrace, making it an optimal space for events.
The Centre features a range of multi-functional facilities, including a 46-seat Theatrette for players, coaches and community use.
